Textural and Toasty Whites

The perfect companion for Winter

What is texture in white wine? Texture (sometimes referred to as “mouthfeel”) refers to the way a wine feels in your mouth. It can be smooth, coarse, creamy, waxy, oily or silky. Some white grape varieties tend to produce more textural wines either due to the winemaking or the inherent nature of the grape variety.

In winter, white wines are often forgotten as we move to drinking red wines. However, textural whites served at around 15℃ are perfect for winter enjoyment. Our 2023 White Label Pinot Gris has a slight phenolic grip thanks to the extended skin contact that has given the wine its blush colour. The skin contact also lends an oiliness to the palate. Our museum release whites, particularly the 2016 Black Label Arneis and 2017 Black Label Savagnin (Cellar Door Only), have texture in spades. These are gorgeously complex wines which can support rich, oily dishes such as spaghetti vongole.

We recently uncovered a hidden pallet of 2012 True Colours Sauvignon Blanc Semillon and 2013 White Label Bon Blanc (Savagnin) . The Sauvignon Semillon is still as fresh as a daisy with super crisp acidity while the Bon Blanc is more layered and silky with almond nougat flavours.

Why not add a few aged, textural whites to your winter drinks list? Jump online to get these wines now. ✨
