Our sustainability mission is a journey rather than a destination.

As part of our reporting to Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA), we have pinpointed water usage as one of our action points in our Sustainability Action Plan.  In order to reduce water, we attached high pressure nozzles to our hoses in the winery.  These nozzles ensure less water is used by utilising pressure to reduce water usage.  This impacts our wastewater management as it means less in, less out.

We are also planning on bringing some of our vineyards in to the SWA fold.  Our Racecourse vineyard will be the first to register as a SWA member.  This will be for the 2023/24 financial year and the first twelve months will be about reporting across 6 key areas:

  • land and soil
  • water
  • people and business
  • biodiversity
  • energy
  • waste

Once reporting is complete, we will be able to benchmark the vineyard against vineyards of a similar size in the Yarra Valley.  This will the allow us to pinpoint what we are doing well and where we need to improve.  Small steps but worth the effort.
